Pet Acupuncture
At Cats & Dogs Animal Hospital in Long Beach, CA, we promote your pet’s well-being through our specialized acupuncture services.
Why Acupuncture Is Essential
Acupuncture plays a key role in supporting your pet’s health. This long-established treatment works by stimulating specific points on the body to promote natural healing and relieve pain. Regular acupuncture treatments not only help your pet recover from injuries or manage chronic conditions but also enhance their overall well-being.
What Problems Can Acupuncture Treat?
Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other veterinary treatments. Clinical research indicates that acupuncture can address the following medical issues in animals, large and small:
- Arthritis
- Traumatic nerve injuries
- Sore backs or intervertebral disk disease
- Respiratory problems such as feline asthma
- Allergic dermatitis and other skin issues
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Some reproductive issues
- Minor sports injuries
Which Animals Can Benefit from Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is safe for all animals. It is one of the safest forms of treatment if done by a properly trained veterinarian. Currently, we provide the therapy to cats and dogs only.
The Benefits of Regular Acupuncture
Providing your pet with regular acupuncture treatments offers several important benefits:
Pain Relief
Helps alleviate chronic pain from arthritis or injuries.
Improved Mobility
Enhances joint function and flexibility, especially in aging pets.
Stress Reduction
Calms the nervous system and promotes relaxation.
Enhanced Healing
Stimulates natural healing processes for faster recovery from surgeries or injuries.
What to Expect During an Acupuncture Session
All animals react differently to acupuncture. The process requires that your pet sit still for some time during the process. As a result, your pet may need to be gently restrained for the first treatment, but most animals tolerate acupuncture very well. Pets will generally sit still for subsequent treatments. Sessions are often between 20 and 60 minutes.
Some smaller animals will not feel any pain at all during the session, but there may be some sensations, such as tingling, cramps, or numbness, that may confuse or frighten your pet. However, many animals become relaxed and get very sleepy during the process.
